FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY!

FRINGE FRIDAY EVENTS

SAND CASTLE CONTEST
-  Kids, teens, families and individuals compete for fun and prizes at our Sand Castle Contest at Nye Beach.  This is one of the first kick off events held during the "Friday Fringe" events on June 8th, 2012.  This is a FREE event!  (FormsEvent begins at 8:00 AM.

KILTED KILOMETER -  As a part of the Highland Games events, our "Running for Shelter" fun run is for runners of any age who
wish to participate.  Entrants bring or borrow kilts to run along the sand at Nye Beach during low tide on "Fringe Friday" June 8th, 2012.  Entry fees are a donation of cash or pet food which will benefit the Lincoln County Animal Shelter.  (FormsEvent begins at 2:00 PM.

WHISKY TASTING - A Scotch Whisky tasting seminar will be held on "Fringe Friday" June 8th, 2012, at Stone Crest Cellar B&B in South Beach, for those interested in learning about and sampling different types of Scotch.  Registrations are limited and are for adults 21 and over.  Click Here to purchase your tickets!

IRISH CEILI DANCE - The Ceili is FREE a pre-festival community dance on "Fringe Friday" June 8th, 2012 at the Newport Recreation Center.  It's a place where individuals, friends and families can learn the basics of traditional Celtic dances
with a group!   Event begins at 7:00 PM.
 
BEACH BONFIRE - Don't miss this well attended FREE event that concludes our "Fringe Friday" events at 9:00 PM (Sunset) at Nye Beach!  Last year we had a great turn out with impromptu appearances by fiddlers, pipers, Irish dancers and others who simply enjoyed each others company.


SATURDAY & SUNDAY - SPROG'S CORNER

"SPROG'S CORNER" is where kids can come to interact and learn about Celtic culture and traditions.  These events will go on throughout the day on Saturday & Sunday at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds.  These FREE activities include:

LIVE CELTIC MUSIC AND DANCING - Multiple stages come alive with Celtic performers bringing live entertaiment to a captivated audience.  Dance and sing along with your favorites!

HIGHLAND GAMES ATHLETICS - A highlight of the festival are the heavy events where athletes attempt great feats of strength to compete for status in the Highland Games circuit.

CELTIC HERITAGE PARADE - Enjoy the fanfare of our colorful Clans, families, bagpipe bands, Celtic canines and more with our one site parade.  Led by the NW Scots Guard, you can join in the parade if you have a Celtic canine or would like to join the rest of our "Gingers on Parade"!  (Forms)

...Highland Cows) will return as a furry feature at the festival.  Steve Phillips of Seal Rock will be on hand with a couple of bonnie bovine to represent the
Northwest Highland Cattle Association

CLANS & SOCIETIES - Learn about the histories of the Celtic clans and families and discover your own family history.  These non-profit organizations offer free information to anyone interested in taking the time to listen and learn.  

VENDORS -  A myriad of colorful vendors will offer their Celtic wares for sale.  Everything from clothing, to jewelry to musical instruments are availalbe to help you show your Celtic pride.

BOB'S RED MILL BAKING CONTEST
 - Whip up your family favorites to win cash and prizes.  The best bakers enter a taste sensation from one of the seven Celtic nations which will be judged for presentation, taste and unique recipes.  (Forms)

WELSH SKILLET TOSS - Ladies, warm up your throwing arm!  Our 2011 winner established a 50.0' skillet toss.  Think you can beat it?  (Forms)

BONNIE KNEES CONTEST - This fan favorite returns.  Gentlemen show off their palatable patellas for the audience who votes for the winner.  Kilts must be worn. 

MANX TUG-O-WAR - Newport Fire Department will defend their title in 2012 when the contest returns.  Get your teams signed up early.   Competing businesses, organizations, schools and others are encouraged to join this community competition.  It's a great way to raise funds for your organization!  (Forms)

HANKERING FOR HAGGIS?  Sign up now for the 2012 Haggis Eating Contest.  Winners have the chance to compete at the Superbowl of Haggis Eating at the Celtic Classic's "Haggis Bowl" in Bethlehem, PA.  (Forms)
